SYMPTOM
I am currently using an automated inspection machine and everything is set up fine with all of my data and trace fields being sent over correctly. Now I have added more tracefields to my program and would like QC-Calc to start recording them. Is there a way to update the file so it will read/record the new tracefileds?

CAUSE

When QC-CALC Real-Time originally created the .qcc file the number of trace fields (factors) saved in the file was determined by taking the larger of the number of factors received from the inspection machine or the values in the Tools - Options - File Creation Defaults - Factors area. If there are not enough empty Factor columns available in the .qcc file to store the additional trace fields that have been added to the part program then the number of Factor columns within the .qcc file needs to be expanded so there is somewhere to store the new values.

RESOLUTION

To expand the Factor columns in an existing .qcc file open that .qcc file then use the File - Modify Database Structure menu. Follow the directions below once you have the Modify Database Structure screen open.

  1. Make sure the .qcc file you are changing is NOT open anywhere else. An error will appear if this file is open in another location and you will not be able to proceed until that other instance is closed.
  2. Go to the Database Settings tab.
  3. The Number of... - Numeric Factors and Text Factors in the upper right section of the screen show the current number of columns in the database for each Factor type.
  4. Increase the value shown for either the Numeric or Text Factors to at least cover the new values that have been added to the part program. You can also add a few extra that may not be needed now, but this will keep you from needing to expand the database in the future if more Factor values are added to the part program.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. At this point you will be shown a screen that allows you to choose which Factor columns should be included in the expansion and the order that should be used.
  7. Click the Select All button followed by the Right Arrow button to get all Factors in the Selected column.
  8. You can highlight Factor names in the Selected column then use the Up and Down Arrow buttons to change the order of the Factors at this point.
  9. Click the OK button and the new columns will be added to the .qcc file.
