PREREQUISITES

You will need QC-CALC Real-Time version 3.0.230 or higher.

INTRODUCTION

There are times when you want QC-CALC to export your data to another format by writing the data into a file format suitable for your application to read. The file name you choose is usually fixed to the name you enter. Occasionally, you might want the file name to change dynamically and follow the contents of one of QC-CALC's variables such as the contents of Text Factor 1.

We have customers who use a barcode reader to read the product name as the parts move into the inspection equipment. QC-CALC adds the value read to one of its FACTORs (see using FACTORn.TXT article). Next, the inspection results for this part are exported to a text file on your network but you want the file name to follow the barcode value.

Here's all you have to do to automate the name change to one of QC-CALC's Factor values. In this example, we assume the export is done every time a part is inspected. You can change the results as needed for your situation.

STEPS

  1. Select menus Export > Export Data.
  2. Select the Export Type (we chose Prolink XML).
  3. Give the file any name (it won't be used but it is required).
  4. Click the Advanced button to expand the window.
  5. Choose the Use Custom File Name option and click the Configure button.
  6. In the Custom File Name Editor choose "TF1 - Text Factor 1" from the list.
  7. Click the Add button.
  8. Click OK on the Custom File Name Editor and the Automatic Exporting Setup screens to conclude the setup.

When the export occurs, the file name will be the contents of Text Factor 1.

CONCLUSION

You can easily and dynamically change the export file name by using QC-CALC's Factor values that derive their contents from an external device.
